Yvonne's Hair and Nail Salon in Virginia has followed the lead of salons in Japan, China, Turkey and Croatia by offering punters the opportunity to be de-scabbed by fish pedicure.
Rather than have their foot flakes attended to by a cod wielding a pumice stone, customers dip their feet in tanks filled with garra rufa fish known as ‘Doctor Fish’.
Hundreds of tiddlers tickle away at the toes of customers, leaving even the flakiest feet smooth.
But it isn’t just light abrasion that removes the dead cells – these toothless fish are actually nibbling away the rough skin.
The Doctor Fish only consume dead areas of skin, leaving healthy skin buffed. Fish pedicures have proved successful in the treatment of psoriasis.

Salon owner John Ho estimates 5000 customers have tried the unconventional treatment and charges $50 for 30 minutes with the use of 100 fish. Chips are not included.
